I set a mini goal for myself in my morning classes. Some days I walk the entire class. Like today!
I start the class pretty slow. Tired. A little angry I am there and not in bed. It's early. It's dark. I just want to be asleep.
As class goes on, I start to get warmed up. My body feels looser and awake. I am not as angry.
I start to look at my steps and how many minutes are left in class.
Can I get to 4000 steps? Can I get to 4,500 steps by the end of class?
I start speed walking at 4.0. Then 4.1. Then 4.2. All the way up to 4.5.
I hit 4,500 steps!
I've learned these things about myself:
1. I am not going to want to go, ever.
2. I still need to make myself go.
3. I need to allow myself to have a silent toddler temper tantrum about being there.
4. I need to give myself plenty of time to warm up.
5. Once I am warmed up, I can excel.
Feels great to be so active first thing in the morning. It's good for my mental health to accomplish something hard first thing.
I start the day with dopamine for checking something off.
I start the day feeling proud of myself.
