Currently reading Atomic Habits with one of my clients, and I just read about habit stacking. I love this book because every time I read it, something different stands out to me.
Habit stacking means you add another small action to something you're already doing.
I already had a great routine with brushing my teeth every evening. A few years ago, I added in washing my face and putting on lotion. Earlier this year, I also added in flossing each night.
It's easy for me to floss because I just added on a short action. It would be hard for me to floss at any other time than a time I am already in the bathroom where the floss is.
I think sometimes we think we're going to be super excited to do a thing. We think that's motivation. But a lot of times we are not excited to do the thing but we do it any way because we made a rule for ourselves to do it.
I am not excited to floss my teeth, but the $$$ the dentist wants to charge me each time I go motivates me to floss every day. So I had to find a place in my day I could actually consistently floss.
Anywho, highly recommend giving Atomic Habits a read.
