The Road to 200lbs

I can't run very well right now. I haven't been able to run well for a bit, and it's frustrating because that is what I want to be doing.

But earlier this year, I declared that I wanted to see myself as a weight-lifter. And I started the Strong Lifts 5x5 plan.

As I got pretty consistent with it, I set a goal to squat and deadlift 200lbs by the end of the year... or whenever it happened. The deadline wasn't really important. I just wanted to have something I was working towards since I couldn't run much.

And things were going well until my trip to Boston. I was gone for a long weekend, and it did mess up my routine. And then I got back to things...

And then the gym got packed. Kids from college were back in town. It got tough to get to the equipment I needed to get to. I hated standing around and waiting. I hated having a disappointing experience at the gym and still needing to get home to start my work day at 8am.

So I thought maybe I'd switch things up and go to another gym. I tried yoga, I tried Orange Theory, I tried strength classes at my running studio. Nothing was giving me the satisfaction of a heavy weight-lifting workout.

So I decided I needed to head back to the gym. But this time, I would go late at night and on weekends when I knew I could get to the equipment I needed.

And it's been great. Much less pressure because I am not rushed and don't have to be home at a certain time. I can get in a 45-minute workout with little worries.

It was a little annoying to have to start over again. I was not able to lift what I could lift a few months ago, but the great thing is every time you go, you get stronger.

I am back to squatting 125lbs and deadlifting 150lbs. I am pretty confident I will deadlift 200lbs by the end of the year. Squatting... may be in January or February, and that's a-okay for me.
